Our Ethos

Suffolk Babies has two main aims:

  • To improve antenatal, postnatal and early childhood education.

We provide birthing courses, and mother and baby classes, right through into toddlerhood. From our centre in Kesgrave, near Ipswich, and across the Central and East Suffolk area, we are a one-stop-shop for up to date, respected and high quality education and support. We firmly believe in building a community for parents, to help them through a time of massive change, which can be difficult or stressful without the right support.

  • To provide families with choices.

All our educational courses are designed to ensure that families are aware of all the options available to them so that they can make well informed choices regarding their antenatal care, labour and birth or parenting choices. We are also part of a wider professional network and will use our local knowledge and contacts within other specialist organisations and the public sector to ensure that every family being supported by Suffolk Babies is able to access the best services for their individual circumstances.

Our Values

  • We value people. We believe that every person has a right to support without judgement. We support our clients whatever their parenting style or choices. We also firmly believe in supporting women in their return to work after having children and all our employees are mothers who have sought employment from family friendly and flexible employers.
  • We believe that there should be a wider community for all families in Suffolk. Our courses and our centre are designed to enable families to meet and build long-lasting supportive peer to peer networks.
  • We believe that all families should have confidence in their abilities as parents. It is our role to empower those families wherever they are in their parenting journey.

Who are we?

We are a not for profit Community Interest Company, founded in the summer of 2016. The three Directors of Suffolk Babies all have experience in different areas supporting local families throughout the perinatal period.

Jo Cresdee, CEO, is a Fedant registered Antenatal teacher, baby massage instructor and baby yoga instructor with a background in Montessori teaching. Jo has worked for the last five years building up a local business providing private antenatal classes and baby classes. The business is based on a licensed antenatal educational package and Jo originally taught in Woodbridge with one small class of 4 clients. At the point of setting up Suffolk Babies her business had grown to the point where nearly 500 clients attended per week (approximately 20% of women delivering at Ipswich Hospital). Classes are taught all over the county from Stowmarket to Saxmundham ensuring that they are as accessible as possible.

team-pics094Emily Boyd, Director of Antenatal Education, has been a registered midwife for 9 years. Working directly for the Ipswich NHS Trust as Practice Development Midwife she is able to bring insight into the needs of families in terms of education, as they approach labour and birth.

team-pics093Katie Mackenzie, Operations Director, has worked with local families for the last five years providing educational courses for parents, having trained as a BabyCalm and ToddlerCalm teacher. These courses, designed by parenting expert Sarah Ockwell-Smith, take the latest evidence-based research in baby and child development and help parents to understand their child to a greater extent, allowing them to have a more harmonious relationship. During this period, Katie also created a website bringing together local baby and toddler activities and courses, helping to inform parents’ choices, and also to help promote small businesses like her own. She is focused on ensuring that all local families can access the specialist services that they need and find the best sources of local support for their individual circumstances.

We also have two other teachers of antenatal and baby classes:

team-pics092Josi Barker

My name is Josi and I have been teaching birthing and baby classes for two years.  Every day reminds me how lucky I am to have found something that I believe so passionately in and that I am able to share with other mothers to be and parents with their children.

Through Suffolk Babies I am able to offer support, information and a sense of fun to new families and to those working towards positive birth journeys.  I am honoured to be able to play a part in such an important time in women’s and families’ lives and I am always grateful for that confidence that they have in us here at Suffolk Babies.

team-pics091Claire Sinclair

I’m Claire and I live in Ipswich with my partner and our two children and my two step children. I was first introduced to Daisy 3 years ago when I was pregnant with my son, I loved the birthing classes and then went on to enjoy the baby and toddler classes. When I became pregnant with my daughter I again throughly enjoyed birthing classes, and have also enjoyed the baby classes. I have a background in healthcare, this combined with experience of Daisy has led me to become a teacher. I loved the positivity and empowerment the classes gave me as a mum to be / mum, and I want help others to benefit from the positive experience that Daisy classes gave me.
